Selling accessories second-hand
Accessories are small, cheap to post and easy to photograph badly. Scale is the whole problem: a scarf, a belt and a piece of jewellery all look the same size in a photograph unless you put something familiar next to them.
Photograph it
Put a common object in the frame — a coin, a card — so the buyer can judge the size without reading a measurement.
What buyers check
- Actual dimensions, because photographs give no sense of scale
- Metal condition, tarnish and plating wear
- Whether clasps and fastenings still work
The common mistake
Photographing a small item alone on a plain background. It could be any size, and buyers scroll past what they cannot judge.
