Selling occasionwear second-hand
Occasionwear is seasonal and deadline-driven: your buyer has an event in three weeks and is searching in a panic. Listings that mention the occasion in plain words — wedding guest, prom, black tie — appear in the searches people actually type.
Photograph it
Photograph any embellishment close up in daylight. Beading and sequins go dull and grey under indoor light and the dress looks cheaper than it is.
What buyers check
- Missing beads, sequins or a broken zip
- Whether it has been altered, and whether the alteration can be undone
- Length, since the same dress is a midi on one person and a maxi on another
The common mistake
Listing it out of season. The same dress sells for more in the six weeks before wedding season than it does in November.
