Selling coats second-hand
Coats are the highest-value item most casual sellers ever list, and the one where a bad photo costs the most money. Weight, length and how the collar sits are what a buyer is paying for, and a coat crumpled on a duvet communicates none of them.
Photograph it
Hang it before you shoot if you can. A coat has enough weight that hanging shows the true line in a way flat never will.
What buyers check
- Total length, usually measured from the shoulder seam
- The fabric composition, because wool content sets the price
- Pockets, lining and any missing belt
The common mistake
Forgetting to mention a missing belt. It is the single most common cause of a coat being returned.
