Selling knitwear second-hand
Knitwear is the hardest thing to sell from a flat photo, because the whole appeal is how it hangs. Laid on a bed a cable knit reads as a shapeless rectangle, and the buyer cannot tell whether it is oversized, cropped or true to size. Shown on a body the same jumper sells itself.
Photograph it
Shoot in daylight and let the sleeves fall naturally rather than folding them flat — folded sleeves flatten the texture and make the knit look thin.
What buyers check
- How long it sits on the body, and where the hem lands
- Whether the knit has pilled under the arms or at the cuffs
- The neckline shape, which flat photos routinely disguise

Photographing a jumper folded in half. It halves the apparent length and buyers assume it is cropped.
