Selling jackets second-hand
A jacket is structure, and structure photographs badly flat. Shoulders collapse, lapels fold in on themselves, and a well-cut blazer ends up looking like a bin bag. This is the category where showing the garment worn changes the perceived value most.
Photograph it
Do the buttons up before you shoot. An open jacket laid flat loses its shape entirely and the shoulders read as too wide.
What buyers check
- Shoulder width, which decides fit more than the label does
- Lining condition, especially under the arms
- Whether the buttons are original and all present
The common mistake
Shooting a structured jacket flat and unbuttoned, which makes even an expensive one look cheap.
